Tremors are involuntary shakes in the arms, commonly seen in Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor. Over 22 million people worldwide are affected by tremor disorders. Current treatment options have limited effect and may cause multiple side-effects.
A tremor in the arm or hand can cause serious difficulties in daily activities such as writing, drinking and eating. Next to these functional impairments, tremor can influence a patient’s social life. Many patients are ashamed of their tremor and therefore avoid social activities.
STIL has developed an innovative solution that suppresses tremors: the anti-tremor orthosis. This CE-marked medical device contains specialized dampers that suppress the tremor but don’t restrict voluntary motion.
The ‘Hersenstichting’ is supporting the first clinical study with the anti-tremor orthosis.
